He's (she's) the frog from the 1865 story Mark Twain wrote entitled, The Notorious Jumping Frog of Calaveras County.

A French translation of it came out in 1872, called La Grenouille Sateuse du Comte de Calveras.

Twain detested it so much, he rewrote his original story and this time called it, The Frog Jumping of the County of Calaveras.
