"The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn"

 Introduction

Given that 2008 is the Centennial Year for the Mark Twain Library, it is fitting that "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" has been selected to kick off ReddingREADS, our first-ever Town-Wide Read. The mission of ReddingREADS is to foster community and conversation on many levels by encouraging widespread participation throughout the town.

This Fall, the town will hopefully be buzzing 'bout Huck. Starting with Moderator Training Seminars in September, ReddingREADS will teach interested residents how to lead a book talk. These trained moderators will gather the skills necessary to lead book talks either in their own home or for others. In October, five theme-based Book Talks Led By Experts will take place at the library. Each of these in-depth discussions will dive into one particular aspect of this classic novel and bring to light new insights for all. Lastly, "Horray for Huck: the Finale" will feature a conversation amongst a Panel of Experts, all of whom have extensive knowledge of the novel and of Mark Twain. This finale event on November 2nd will officially mark the end of ReddingREADS for 2008.

Please pick up your FREE copy of Huck after Memorial Day weekend and register for ReddingREADS. Books will be available at the library, town hall and the post offices. Gatherings will be hosted by ReddingREADS at the library throughout the Fall. Additionally, each of the three schools in town will be participating in ReddingREADS, and, community organizations will be hosting book talks for their membership. Lastly, we encourage all residents to consider holding a book talk at their home. It's easy: simply invite friends and neighbors and contact ReddingREADS to provide a moderator.
