The beginning of the holiday season in Redding
is marked by the Mark Twain Library Art Show and Preview Party.
The preview party is held on the first Friday in December; the artwork
is on display and available for purchase during the week that follows.
This is a juried art show of two-dimensional works
in such media as oil, watercolor and pastel, and three-dimensional
work in metal, wood, ceramic, etc.; photographs are not included
at this time. In September, the art show committee sends out invitations
to local artists to submit work for consideration; if you are not
on this list, and would like to submit work, you may contact committee
chair Pam Reese c/o the library. Art pieces are submitted and judged
during the first week in December. Artists donate one third of the
purchase price of their artwork to the library.
The preview party is always a gala event. Invitations
to purchase tickets to this party are sent only to those people
who are current "Friends of the Library".
The art show and party is yet another library event
dependent for its success on a wonderful group of volunteers. Assistance
is needed with selling advertisements for the art show journal,
addressing envelopes, organizing the preview party, working on jury
day, and handling sales during the week of the show. If you are
interested in helping on any aspect of this important event, please
contact the library, which will forward your name to the appropriate
volunteer chair.
