To highlight the 2009 summer reading theme, "Be Creative at the Library", the Redding Garden Club provided a variety of flowers to plant in front of the library - and helped to plant them, too!
Over the summer, Susan Jackson of Paint, Draw, and More offered a workshop leading a busy group of children in the intriguing task of creating art works from old books. (sorry, no pix.) Brenda Froelich of Wilton Dance Studio provided a lively introduction to ballet. Diana Canova explained how much fun it is to narrate storybook videos for Weston Woods. JBHS student Charlie Ambler explained the ground rules of digital photography to a group of young patrons and then took them on a photo-walk around the library grounds. Scout leader Dave Shuford supervised a very-well-attended LEGO workshop. And Jimmy Grashow concluded our summer activities with a cardboard construction demonstration that resulted in a sweet little fish with eyelashes and very sharp teeth!
In October, we offered an "introduction to community helpers" Saturday Storytime Series. Officer Anthony Signore represented the Police Department, Chief Joe Miceli talked about our volunteer Fire Department, Jane Stern, Celia Montgomery, and Ron Romano explained Redding's emergency medical services, and Larry Kulowiec presented the town's trash and recycling procedures with the assistance of John Sundlof of Redding Sanitation.
Also in October, Anita Formichella, Sarah Upson, and Mark Strauss transformed our young library patrons into trick-or-treaters at a Halloween face painting workshop.
And in November, Masako Vigneault introduced origami to an enthusiastic group of middle-graders.
These wonderful volunteers are featured in the our photo gallery of 2009 events.
