Hermes Art Series - Beauiles Bebop Society : MAY 1, 2009

On Friday May 1 a capacity crowd filled the Mark Twain Meeting Room to hear the Beauiles Bebop Society jazz group in a rollicking jam session. Sponsored by the Allen and Helen Hermes Art Series, and with Helen in appreciative attendance, the group showed off their improvisational talents. Jeff Fligelman, chair of the Hermes Art Series committee introduced the evening, and Mark Hinkley, one of three piano players who performed, proved a lively and witty Master of Ceremonies. Musicians were Julian Barry on trumpet; Joe Mato, bass; Kenny Goldstein, drums; and Harvey Kulawitz and Kathy Anderson alternating with Hinkley on piano. The audience snacked on popcorn, peanuts and sparkling water during the performance and signaled their delight in the evening by calling out for more such jam sessions in the near future.
