CODE OF CONDUCT

In order to protect all library users' right of access to library facilities, to insure the safety of patrons and staff, and to protect library resources and facilities from damage, the Library Board of Trustees has established to following code of conduct.

  • Patrons shall be engaged in activities associated with the use of a public library.
  • Patrons may not consume food or beverages, other than water, in the library, except during library programs, or as agreed with the Library Director.
  • Smoking is prohibited throughout the entire library building at all times.
  • Patrons shall not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs while on the premises of the library. The premises include not only the building, but also the land surrounding it, including the parking lot.
  • Patrons shall not engage in any illegal activity while in the library.
  • Patrons shall respect the rights of other patrons, and shall not harass or annoy, or behave in a manner which reasonably can be expected to disturb other persons.
  • Patrons shall not interfere with the use of the library by other patrons, or interfere with library employees' performance of their duties.
  • Any materials removed from the library must be checked out on a valid library card or through other standard library procedures.
  • Each library cardholder is solely responsible for material checked out on his/her card. Library privileges may be suspended or revoked until financial obligations are met.
  • Patrons may not deface books, magazines, newspapers, recordings or other items of the library collection, nor shall they deface or in any way destroy or damage library furnishings, walls, machines or other library property.
  • Patrons shall not be permitted to enter the library building without a shirt or other covering of their upper bodies, or without shoes or other footwear. Patrons whose bodily hygiene is offensive so as to constitute a nuisance to other patrons may be required to leave the building.
  • Patrons shall not bring pets or other animals into the library, other than guide dogs.
  • All children 10 years and younger must be accompanied by a parent, guardian or responsible adult.
  • Roller skates, skateboards or bicycles are not permitted in the library.
  • Ball games are not permitted on the land surrounding the library, including the parking lot.
  • No person shall petition for signatures, conduct surveys, or distribute printed material, while on the premises of the library. Solicitations, for any purpose, and the selling of tickets or merchandise are also prohibited without the permission of the Library Director.
  • Any person not abiding by these and other library rules and regulations may be required to leave the library premises.
  • Parents are responsible for the behavior of their children. Any child who disrupts library service may, if necessary, be asked to leave.
  • Library employees may contact the Redding Police if deemed advisable.
